Why get a Frenchie?
DK: The French Bulldog is the #1 dog in the nation right now dethroning the popular labrador retriever. However, do not mistake the Frenchie breed as a mere trend! Their lovable personalities radiate with charm and charisma in every aspect. They're affectionate, smart, playful, have unwavering loyalty, and will keep you entertained everyday with their silly ways.
Frenchies also don't need a large space for living, as they don't need much exercise to satisfy their needs. A Frenchie would feel right at home in a small apartment.
Personally, I love the breed because they have the characteristics of a big dog while conveniently being compact and smaller in size. This makes it much easier to take care of them. Their size also means that I can travel and easily take my Frenchie wherever I please.
Why do Frenchies cost so much?
DK: There are many reasons why the Frenchies' cost is so high. First, Frenchies have become incredibly popular, leading to an unprecedented surge in demand for this charming breed. However, the average litter size for Frenchies typically ranges from 3 to 4 puppies, which creates a scarcity in supply compared to the high demand. As a result, this limited availability contributes to the higher prices associated with Frenchies in today's market.
Additionally, breeding and raising Frenchies can be very costly. The breed often requires artificial insemination and cesarean section deliveries due to their unique body structure, which adds to the expenses for breeders.
Furthermore, responsible breeders invest in proper healthcare, nutrition, socialization, and genetic testing for their dogs, all of which contribute to the overall cost of raising healthy and well-bred Frenchies.
Finally, the pedigree and bloodline of a Frenchie can influence its price.Desirable traits, coat color, and good structure of the dog often come with a higher price tag.
Are all of your puppies AKC registered?
DK: Absolutely! Each and every puppy we have is registered with the AKC (American Kennel Club)! To transfer ownership smoothly to you, our valued customer and proud new owner of a PAWmazing Frenchie, we'll provide you with a form from the AKC website. Simply fill out the form, and voila! You'll be officially listed as the new owner of the puppy, ensuring a seamless transition of ownership.
Are Frenchies hard to train?
DK: Frenchies have a range of trainability, but overall, they are considered moderately easy to train. They are smart dogs and can grasp basic commands and household rules when trained consistently, using positive reinforcement and patient methods.
All of our PAWmazing Frenchies come with a foundation in basic potty training. Additionally, we ensure they are taught essential commands such as "come," "sit," and "stay." By providing this initial training, we aim to make it easier for new PAWmazing owners to transition with their new puppies and have more time to focus on other aspects of their furry companion's well-being.
Is the fluffy Frenchie a mixed breed?
DK: There is often confusion surrounding the fluffy Frenchie, with many believing it to be a mixed breed resulting from crossing a French Bulldog with a long-haired Chihuahua or Pekingese. I, too, was once under this impression. However, I did some digging and found out that this is not the case. The fluffy or long-haired French Bulldog is actually a genetic anomaly that occurs when a French Bulldog inherits two copies of the recessive long hair gene. It is a rare occurrence rather than the result of intentional mixed breeding.
The image displayed above showcases a Fluffy French Bulldog, which was discovered in a book from 1933 titled "Le bouledogue Français." During that era these fluffy French Bulldogs were referred to as Angora French Bulldogs. The description accompanying the image states, "Moony de Montgobert, French Bulldog Angora, in a litter of normal purebred dogs, to Madame Lepitre." This historical evidence confirms the existence of fluffy Frenchies nearly a century ago. During that period, the presence of such an unusual genetic trait would likely have been deemed atypical, leading to the exclusion of French Bulldogs carrying that trait from breeding programs. However, today, the fluffy French Bulldog has gained significant popularity and is highly sought after.
What is a fluffy carrier?
DK: A "fluffy carrier" is a term used to describe a dog that carries the gene for a fluffy or long-haired coat, even if the dog itself doesn't have that fluffy coat. In the case of French Bulldogs, a fluffy carrier would be a French Bulldog that has the hidden gene for long hair but has a short and smooth coat. When two fluffy carriers or a fluffy carrier and a fluffy French Bulldog are bred together, their puppies have a chance of inheriting two copies of the recessive gene, which results in a fluffy coat.
Breeders who are interested in producing fluffy French Bulldogs might specifically look for fluffy carriers to include in their breeding programs. By doing so, they increase the likelihood of producing puppies with fluffy coats.
What is a merle Frenchie?
DK: A Merle Frenchie is a special variation of the French Bulldog breed that exhibits a rare and distinct coat pattern. This pattern is characterized by patches or streaks of diluted pigmentation, resulting in a captivating mottled or marbled appearance. Merle Frenchies stand out due to their unique coat coloration, making them visually striking and highly sought after by dog enthusiasts.
The pattern of a Merle Frenchie is caused by a dominant gene known as the merle gene, which influences how pigment is distributed in the dog's coat.
The merle pattern can manifest in many various colors, including blue merle, chocolate merle, lilac merle, and other fascinating variations. Their eyes, nose, and paw pads may also exhibit lighter or mottled pigmentation, adding to their PAWmazing appearance.
